Attorney Profile

Providing Exceptional Representation Based On Mutual Trust And Respect

I began practicing law here in Springfield, Illinois, in 1972 with Barber & Barber, which eventually became Barber, Segatto, Hoffee and Hines. In 2008, I opened my own practice so I could provide more attention to my clients and work directly with them to find personalized solutions to their problems.

In 2016, I was reognized as No. 1 in the Top Ten Agricultural Leading Lawyers.  In 2015, I was recognized as No. 1 in the Top Ten Agricultural Leading Lawyers and as No. 1 in the Top Ten Down-State Real Estate-Related Leading Lawyers in Illinois. In 2014, I was recognized as No. 1 in the Top Ten Agricultural Leading Lawyers. Additionally, I have been included as one of the Top 100 Leading Downstate Business Lawyers in Illinois and one of the Top 100 Leading Downstate Consumer Lawyers in Illinois, all by Leading Lawyer Magazine surveys.

In April 2015, I was reappointed to a second three-year term as a member of the Board of Directors of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation.

Additionally, on Publications in 2013, I authored two chapters for the National Business Institute Publication Estate Planning for Farmers and Ranchers including the section on "Planning for a Full or Partial Outright Sale or Gift of Farmland" and a section on "Agricultural Use Valuation."  I also authored a chapter entitled "Land Trust, Succession Planning, & Other Estate Planning Issues Involving Farmland" for the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education course "Representing Farm Owners." In 2015, I was published for National Business Institute the chapter on "Probate Litigation" for the course "Probate Boot Camp."

I have served farmers and their families for the last 40 years. I know the problems you face as you work to grow your business and see that it gets passed on to your heirs. I will help you with both of these issues by crafting solutions that best fit your needs.

I am experienced in contesting matters involving estates and real property issues. Earlier in my career, I handled First Amendment matters. During my career, I have successfully argued several cases before the Illinois Supreme Court and the Fourth District Appellate Court of Illinois.
